A full-time staff of four Board-certified forensic pathologists and ten death investigators conduct inquiries into approximately 200 homicides, 200 accidental deaths, 150 traffic fatalities per year, and 90 suicides. In 1993, 950 autopsies and 850 scene investigations were conducted, and over 1,000 toxic examinations were performed.

FORMAT: Students will assist in the performance on medicolegal autopsies and other postmortem examination, participate in death scene investigation, and attend daily care review conferences. Students with an interest in anatomic pathology, especially autopsy or forensic pathology, are particularly well-suited for this clerkship. Each month approximately 200 cases are reported to the office and approximately 80 to 100 autopsies are performed. Students will also have access to pathology residents and forensic pathology fellows in training at the medical examiners office.
